Inside Track: Multiplication and Division Revision x3

Teaching Video:

Multiplying by 3 is best learned using a “double plus one more” strategy.  for example, 8×3 = double 8 + 8 = 16 + 8 = 24.  For larger numbers such as 8, the student will need to be able to add two harder numbers together.

Use an array model to show students why multiplying by 3 is the same as doubling and adding one more.
